The burnt forest is a silent testimony of the Carmel Great Fire which claimed 44 lives of rescuers. The remnants trees standing still are a silent memory for this painful event of great loss.
The tree is a symbol of a moment frozen in time. A new forest will rise from the scorched ground but the monument will keep the old memory alive.
The tree branches breaking through the ground are calling out the pain. The tree`s core, with the 44 names engraved on it, is the lifeblood of the tree and its source of power. It is a reflection of the spirit and strength of the people who were the core of society and gave their life for it.
The olive tree symbolizes the rootedness and belonging to the local. It is incorporated in the proposed monument as a symbol of life, growth and recovery.
